Non-diagnostic maths assessments age 6-21
A non-diagnostic maths assessment might be just what you need if:
you (if aged 21 or under) or your child finds maths tricky
maths isn't tricky but you'd like reassurance about whether your or your child's skills are in the age-expected range
you're unsure whether there's a potential maths difficulty or if maths anxiety is the main factor
you'd like an assessment that looks at a very wide range of maths skills including those listed below
you'd like a report that gives standardised scores but also qualitative analysis
you'd like information that can be useful by schools when considering if the right interventions are in place
you're not currently looking for a diagnostic assessment

I'm excited to share that I'm currently training to be able to assess for dyscalculia and a specific learning difficulty in maths (the latter being a more recent diagnosis but as impactful as dyscalculia). Therefore, until I'm qualified, I'm offering these shorter assessments which will not conclude if you or your child has dyscalculia or a specific learning difficulty in maths but will nonetheless highlight if there are concerns and result in a practical report being written.
How long does the assessment take and what does it involve?
These assessments take place only in person at my home in Crawley Down near East Grinstead in West Sussex.
They take no more than 1 hour 15 minutes and involve a wide range of standardised tests including: counting, sequencing, maths fluency, linguistic maths concepts, equation building, perception estimation, number comparison, perceptual estimation, operational knowledge (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and much more. Within 5 working days, you'll receive a report that not only says whether the scores obtained for the range of tests come into the age-expected range but also gives qualitative information about strategies being used at the assessment and my observations. It'll also offer practical strategies and signposting to useful resources.
Before the assessment takes place, I'll ask you to complete a short questionnaire. Whilst school involvement is not necessary, I nonetheless welcome the opportunity when schools are able to complete a short questionnaire. In secondary school, this needs to be completed by only the maths teacher. It is also helpful to see the latest school report.
How much is the assessment and when do I pay?
The cost of this assessment is £200 which is payable no later than the assessment date. Regardless of who pays for the assessment, the report goes to the person named on the report or to those with parental responsibility if under 18.
Already seen me for a full diagnostic dyslexia assessment? The cost of this maths assessment is £180.
However, looking to combine this assessment with another of my services? Please get in touch and I'll adivse you about waiting times and costs.
When's your next availability?
These are quick assessments that I'm fitting around my existing bookings so my availability is likely to be almost immediate including after school if your child won't be impacted by tiredness. Please either contact me through my website, call me on 01342 714065 or email smdyslexia.co.uk to arrange.
